Class Description

As an IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist, I offer 1:1 yoga therapy sessions for clients seeking to address a specific issue or multiple issues at the same time. According to the accrediting organization, The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), "Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the teachings and practices of Yoga." -https://www.iayt.org/page/ContemporaryDefiniti It's useful to know that yoga therapists and yoga teachers are not interchangeable designations. Yoga therapy required 1000 hours of training and case studies whereas most yoga teaching requires 200 or 500 hours of training. Yoga therapy is designed to support a person in targeting particular issue(s) like recovering from injury or postpartum recovery and/or addressing a physical (ie: arthritis) or biopsychosical (ie: Lyme disease, Ehlers Danlon, MS, dementia, etc) diagnosis. The list of possible things yoga therapy may help with is exhaustive. It could be something very disruptive to someone's quality of life or a person could seek yoga therapy to address something more mundane. Usually yoga therapy has a start and end with a course of action taken progressively each week. 6-8 week sessions often yield good results and clients might also begin to notice positive changes in just 1-2 sessions. Yoga therapy clients receive detailed notes and home practice plans for each session. Ayurveda is often recommended in yoga therapy plans as well. I am happy to work 1:2 with clients and caregivers at no extra charge.
